Samsung to Investigate Exploding Galaxy S III Smartphones

Barely weeks after launching its latest flagship smartphone, Samsung is experiencing a spate of bad feedback from its Galaxy S III series. The company said it was investigating a case in which said smartphone had exploded while charging on a car cradle.

Reuters reports of a Dublin-based smartphone user who said his mobile phone “exploded” while mounted on his car dashboard. “Suddenly, a white flame, sparks and bang came out of the phone,” the user said.

However, the user adds that there was “no confirmation it was a fault with the phone.” The user adds that the problem “may actually have been caused by a combination of [his] car mount and … heating system.”

According to Samsung, the initial investigation has concluded there was no fault with the phone. However, further investigation will be done to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem. Samsung spokesman James Chung said the results of the investigation could be released by next week.

We earlier reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S 3 to be “the only phone you’ll ever want,” and a worthy upgrade to Samsung’s Flagship Galaxy S line. However, issues with heat often plague electronic devices, such as the overheating iPad reported earlier, which was downplayed by Apple as within normal operating temperatures.
