Google I/O Extended Says Hello to the Philippines Again

The extended version of Google I/O conference will launch in Manila from June 27 to June 28. The main event, which is ongoing in San Francisco California now for three days, features technical sessions covering web, mobile and enterprise apps development with Google and discusses web technology topics such as Android, Chrome, Chrome OS, APIs, Web Toolkit, App Engine and many more.

Those who could not make it to the U.S. in person, but still want to catch up with the latest updates from I/O might want to attend the viewing party and community building, to network with local developers and watch the main event’s keynote and other sessions live in Google I/O Extended Manila.

The free event, which focuses on live-streaming parts of the conference, will roll out in more than 300 locations worldwide from June 27 8 AM until June 28 4 PM US/Pacific Time. If possible, participants will be entitled to have direct conversations with the developers at the Moscone Center through Google+ hangouts.

This is the second time the event has is happening in the Philippines. This is a bit tricky since the keynote happens at midnight in the country’s time zone. Organized by Google Technology User Group (GTUG) Philippines, the I/O Extended event will profile demos from local developers and accommodate other speaker sessions.

The user interest group includes enthusiasts of Google technology, and  is basically an independent organization. Lead by Aileen Apolo, Jomar Tigcal and Brian Tan Seng, the group has hosted 25 events with around 50 participants as attendees.

The event is a good place to learn about Google developer platforms and its implementation from developers’ and local companies’ perspectives. The event is open to the public with membership, with its major focus being developers and educational technical content.

Thus far, there are 348 chapters in 95 countries around the world delivering events including people meet-ups, code sprints, and hackathons. This also extends to larger gatherings with demos and lectures. Aside from the Philippine user group, regional events will be also held at the Bacolod, Davao and Zamboanga Chapters.

Payroll Hero 14th Floor, Picadilly Star, 27th Street Corner 4th Avenue, Taguig City, Metro Manila will be the event venue. Space is limited and registration is required.
